Prologue: chapter 1

Harold: Princess, we are about to descend. Please feel free to enjoy the view of the Kingdom of Pelovia.
I turn to look out the window of the plane, and see a beautiful stretch of land sitting next to the sparkling blue ocean. Colorful buildings are stacked in a neat array, surrounded by flourishing greenery. An opulent white castle towers over the entire kingdom, atop a small hill on the coast.
Celeste: Wow… it is gorgeous.
Eleanor: Yes, it is. I regret not taking you here when your father and I would visit, even if you would have been too young to remember.
Celeste: It is okay mother, I know father would not have let me come with you.
Eleanor: Ah, it is still a shame. Pelovia is a wonderful kingdom, and one of our most important allies. I hope that you become well acquainted with it on this trip, albeit the exhaustion you must be feeling since this is our last stop.
Prologue: Chapter 1

My mother and I have been touring our allied kingdoms for the past five months. After my father passed away two years ago and my mother assumed the throne, she felt it was important to reestablish Kingdom Safira’s alliances as well as formally introduce me to other royalty.
As soon as she settled into becoming Safira’s ruler, we were off on our journey to see the world together. I could not be happier, as I had never left the kingdom until this tour and have finally been able to see with my own eyes the beautiful marvels I had heard through stories in my childhood.
Celeste: Do not worry, mother. I have not grown tired of such amazing sights just yet.
My mother smiles and wraps her hand around mine.
Prologue: Chapter 1

We land, and are immediately greeted by a tall young man. Every single feature on his face is sharp, and his expression is neutral. Too neutral, if even possible.
Barrett: Welcome, Princess Celeste and Queen Eleanor. My name is Barrett, and you may call me if you ever need anything during this visit. Please allow my staff to help you with your luggage and other possessions.
Barrett stands at the door of the jet, helping us out. After assisting my mother, he takes my hand in his and carefully guides me down the small staircase.
Celeste: Oof!
I trip on the last step and feel myself beginning to fall backwards, when a hand lands on the small of my back and catches me.
Barrett: Please be careful, princess. We would not want you to suffer any casualties before you have a chance to tour the beautiful palace.
Celeste: His words sound so kind, but he speaks with a straight face. It is odd.
Prologue: Chapter 1

We make our way to the front of the palace, where the royal family and their cadre stand. Trumpeters line the entrance, creating a walkway, as maids throw petals into the air as we pass.
I gape at a handsome young man standing in the center of it all. As soon as we lock eyes, he smiles warmly.
Celeste: So that must be King Kiran. The talks of his captivating presence prove to be no exaggeration.
My mother and I finally reach the entrance of the palace, face to face with the royal family.
Eleanor: Queen Katrina, King Theodore. It has been too long. What a grand welcome, you must not spoil us so much!
Katrina: Greetings, Queen Eleanor. The entrance was actually all planned by Kiran. He wanted to grant you an impressive introduction.
Eleanor: Ah, yes. Congratulations on your coronation, King Kiran! And to believe that you were just this tall when I last visited.
My mother puts her hand to her waist, and the young king smiles bashfully.
Eleanor: I would like to formally introduce you to my daughter, and the crown princess, Celeste.
Celeste: A pleasure to meet you, your majesties.
I curtsy towards them.
Theodore: The pleasure is ours, princess. Now, let us take you into our home.
Prologue: Chapter 1

My mother and I sit beside each other, across from the Pelovian royal family. We are enjoying high tea, and I thoroughly relish the local delicacies spread before me.
Perhaps I savor the pastries a little too much, as I am caught off guard with a question from Queen Katrina, my mouth is stuffed with a scone.
Celeste: Pardon?
Small crumbs fly from my mouth the moment I open it.
Kiran chuckles, but as soon as he notices that my eyes have landed on him, he covers his mouth and bows his head, as if to apologize.
Katrina: I asked how you were enjoying Pelovia thus far.
Celeste: I am having a wonderful time, your majesty. The kingdom is gorgeous.
Katrina: I am glad to hear. I envy you… sometimes I wish I could see the kingdom for the first time again, just to see if it would be any different as to how I see it now.
The conversation continues, remaining light and pleasant. Our hosts seem to be intrigued with understanding how my mother has been handling her new responsibility of leading Safira, as most would be, since it is the first time our kingdom has been ruled by a woman.
Safira runs as a monarchy, with the king usually as the head of the kingdom. Customarily, if the Queen and King do not birth a son, their daughter will marry a nobleman, and her husband will assume the throne. That was to be my fate for as long as I had known, until recently.
Prologue: Chapter 1

When my father passed, it was expected that my mother would remarry and continue to live as a consort. However, she announced that she would remain a widow and acquire the crown. After all, our legislation has no word against a woman ruling; it is just that such a circumstance had never occurred.
When she took the throne, my mother announced that I was to be her predecessor. I would become Queen and ruler of Safira when I turned twenty-one, in two years from now. My entire destiny had been spun on its head... and although two years have passed since I was named crown princess, I still have no idea what to make of it.
Theodore: We would like to offer our deepest condolences to your family. King Leander was a great man.
Silence washes over the room. The topic of my father is inevitable, but each time it is brought up, my mother and I are still taken back.
Eleanor: Your condolences are appreciated.
Celeste: May I be excused? I would like to use the bathroom.
Katrina: Of course. Barrett will escort you.
Prologue: Chapter 1

Barrett and I walk down the halls of the palace. He rounds a corner, and I begin to wonder how many turns we need to make before reaching our destination.
Celeste: This palace is huge…
Barrett: …
Celeste: Have you ever gotten lost in this palace?
Barrett: No. I have been working here for five years.
Celeste: Oh… I have lived in the Safira palace for my whole life, and even I make a few wrong turns occasionally.
Silence ensures before Barrett responds.
Barrett: Your highness, do you always speak with your service like this?
Celeste: His tone is polite, but there is still some hostility behind his words. What a paradox.
how will you respond?
Prologue: Chapter 1

The little heart above will serve as a 'right choice' indicator throughout the game
Celeste: Yes, I do. I have never found social status to be a barrier for conversation. Have you?
Barrett: It is not I who usually obstructs such talk.
Celeste: I may be considered an anomaly, then. But that is how my mother raised me.
Barrett: Your mother seems very cordial. I suppose I do not mind such anomalous behavior, princess.
Prologue: Chapter 1

Celeste: If my small talk is not welcome, then I will make no effort to be pleasant.
Barrett: I apologize, princess. That is not what I meant.
Celeste: Then what did you mean with such inhospitable words?
Barrett: I was just surprised at your amiability, is all. It is different from the treatment I usually receive.
